例えば今必要な「加湿器」: humidifier 「加湿する」っていう動詞が humidify だから。 夏がきて、「除湿機」が必要になったら？ 「加湿する」のではなくて、湿気を取り除くから、動詞の humidify の前にdeをつけて、 「除湿する」は dehumidify だから除湿機は？ ・・・そう。 dehumidifier -er は、「人」「もの」を表す名詞をつくる接尾辞。 de- は、「離れる」、「否定」を意味する接頭辞。 なのです！ I love etymology. -er is a suffix to make "man" or "thing". de- is a prefix to make "depart" or "negative". I love studying the origin of word very much.
