マレーヒヨケザルの大量死とその要因

2015年8月から10月にかけて、インドネシア・パガンダラン自然保護区でマレーヒヨケザル(Galeopterusvariegatus)が5頭、相次いで死体で発見されました。このような短期間での死亡はパガンダランでは過去に例がなく、また本種を対象とした先行研究でもそのような事例は知られていません。本研究ではまずルートセンサスに基づいてヒヨケザルの生息密度を推定し、死亡した5匹は調査地の全生息個体の10-20%に相当することを示しました。ゆえに、今回のイベントは本種の「大量死」とみなしてよいと考えています。次に、大量死が生じた生態学的要因を探るために、気温・降水量・植物フェノロジーといった各種要因との関連性を調べました。その結果、大量死が起きた時期には若葉（ヒヨケザルの主要食物）の利用可能性が低く、また降水量が著し...マレーヒヨケザルの大量死とその要因

コロブス類：見過ごされてきた種子散布者

「コロブス類＝葉食専門のサル」という認識が霊長類研究者に根付いています。しかし最近の研究で、多くのコロブス類で果実食が見れることが示されており、ゆえにコロブス類は、種子散布をはじめとする、果実食を通じた生態学的サービスに影響していると予想されます。われわれはインドネシアに生息するジャワルトン(Trachypithecusauratus)を対象に、(1)糞に含まれる種子の量と多様性、(2)散布距離、(3)発芽率を評価し、それを同所的に生息するカニクイザル(Macacafascicularis、マカク類は主要な散布者として知られる)の値と比較しました。調査期間中に採集したルトンの糞の54%に種子が含まれ、これはカニクイザルの62%に匹敵する高い値でした。ルトンの糞から出現した植物種数は少なくとも6種あり、これはカニ...コロブス類：見過ごされてきた種子散布者
